Ban on single-used plastic: start using more reusable products.

Nowadays people have started to get more conscious of using less single-use plastic and instead prefer reusable mugs, straws, and bottles. Some companies have made a sudden complete switch while others have been responding to this for some time by providing reusable cups.

For example organizers of festivals and bigger events use some of many types of reusable cups available. At IGO Promo we can print those it with your logo or other message. This way your brand travels with the consumer and your exposure increases, while sending a positive message about sustainability with focus on our planet.

Since July 2021, the EU enforced a new directive about single-use plastic use. What exactly does the ban on single-use plastic products mean, what are the alternatives and what are the benefits of reusable cups? We explain it to you in this article.

Plastic ban

The ban on single-use plastic was introduced to reduce plastic (litter) waste in EU Member states.

Since the 3rd July 2021, there has been a ban on the sale of single-use plastic products such as disposable straws, cotton swabs, plates, cutlery, and balloon sticks, which means those cannot be placed on the markets of the EU Member States. The same ban applies to cups, beverage and food containers that are made wholly or partly of plastic typically intended to be used once before being thrown away.

Alternatives to single-use plastics

The ban on plastic has a major impact on many companies, but fortunately there are great alternatives to reduce the use of plastic in everyday scenarios.

Listed below are a few examples:

  • Cotton shopper bags
  • Stainless steel straws
  • Reusable water bottles
  • Event cups
  • Take away coffee mugs
  • Lunch boxes
  • Pens

There are many alternatives that have a vast variety of sustainable materials and quality to choose from.

The benefits of reusable cups

Reusable cups not only contribute to reducing the plastic waste mountain, but they can also contribute to your brand awareness, especially when you have them printed with your logo.
The recipients walk around with a cup and therefore take your brand with them. Walking advertising! The cups are reusable, so there is a good chance that they will take them with them more often. With the help of reusable products, you also show that you contribute to the environment, and participate in sustainable marketing.
